Squirrels In Attics

Squirrel Control
Perhaps the most ubiquitous wild animal in our region is the gray squirrel. They are persistent and very adaptable. They typically have two litters a year in early spring and late summer. Squirrels will have anywhere from one to about eight young. The average is around four. The drays will open their eyes in about four to six weeks and be mobile by 8 weeks. There is nothing more precious than a baby squirrel.  They feed on acorns, grasses, leaves and hard mast. They are frequent visitors of bird feeders and are a favorite to the delight or dismay of one’s view.

Squirrel Damages

They are normally diurnal in which they are more active in early morning and late afternoons.  They are normally found in attics in which they enter through breaches in the roofline, gable vents, attic fans, ridge vents and water tables. They will also chew through the fascia, soffits and aluminum gutters, if persistent enough. Once inside the attic, they will gnaw rafters, joists, wiring and pipe insulation in order to keep the teeth worn down. They are in the rodent family and have four teeth that never stop growing. Sometimes on roofs the aluminum skylight frame and lead pipes on soil stacks will be gnawed also.

How Many Squirrels Are In An Attic?

Gray squirrels in an attic are very territorial. It typically will be a female with her latest litter that will be present. Sometimes, there will be a bachelor pad, where only young males will be removed. The average number of gray squirrels removed from an attic will be one to about four total. We will remove the scurry of squirrels in the attic and then seal all necessary or potential entrances.
